Somatic Therapy Intensives

A deeper way of working with mind, body, and nervous system

Somatic Therapy Intensives offer extended, focused time for deeper exploration and embodied change. Intensives give space to follow threads more fully, work through barriers, and create lasting shifts in a more concentrated format than weekly therapy sessions.

Intensives are not about rushing your healing or pushing for “faster results.” They are an opportunity to create space for yourself and what you need. They give you a chance to pause, step away from day-to-day life, and make time for rich and uninterrupted therapeutic work.

What makes this approach unique?

Our intensives are grounded in evidence-based and body-centered modalities that support nervous system regulation, trauma processing, and new ways of relating to yourself. Our approaches include:

  • Somatic | Body-Centered Therapy
  • Mindfulness & Body-Awareness
  • Sensorimotor Psychotherapy
  • Movement Psychotherapy
  • Creative Arts Therapy
  • EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
  • Nature Immersion and Walking/Outdoor Therapy

We use experiential therapy to engage your whole self, including thoughts, emotions, sensations and behaviors to help you dig under your stories and make changes in the patterns, beliefs, and expectations that lie under the surface and live in the nervous system and the body.

FAQ

What is a Somatic Therapy Intensive?
A Somatic Therapy Intensive is extended, immersive therapeutic work designed to help you explore patterns, process trauma, and deepen self-understanding in a concentrated timeframe.

How is this different from regular therapy?
In weekly therapy, sessions are usually 50–60 minutes, with time to check in and do a piece of therapeutic work, then pause until the next session. In an Intensive, we remove the stop-and-start, creating a fuller arc of time to stay engaged, work through layers, and allow your nervous system, brain and body integrate a more significant amount of therapeutic work.

Who can benefit from a Somatic Therapy Intensive?
Intensives are for new clients and existing ones, for people in ongoing therapy or brand new to therapy. They’re particularly helpful during times of transition, when you feel stuck in your current therapy, or when you want to engage somatic and experiential methods more fully.

If I already have a primary therapist, can I do an Intensive as adjunct therapy?
Yes. A Somatic Intensive while continuing with your primary therapist can help you move through a “stuck phase”, deepen your ongoing work, or add new options for exploring healing and change. We’re happy to collaborate and coordinate to ensure your care is continuous and supportive.

How long are the sessions?
Intensives can be scheduled as half-day, full-day, or multiple consecutive days. Intensives can be a one-time experience, or you can add additional intensives or a series of intensives. Book a free consultation call to explore your options.

What support is provided afterward?
We include an integration session to complete your intensive, and we will develop a follow up plan with you, including recommendations for resources or practices for ongoing support.

Can I use my insurance for intensives?
All services at Movement Matters are billed directly to clients. Some insurance plans will reimburse a portion of the cost of an Intensive if you have an out-of-network benefit on your plan. We can provide the type of receipt you need (a superbill) for possible reimbursement for a portion of the intensive. When insurance companies do pay for an intensive, it is typically a very small portion.

I’m interested, but not sure if it’s right for me.
That’s what the free consultation is for. It’s a no-pressure way to explore whether this format could support your needs.
